Items Proposed to be funded from our Capitol Improvement account

As the heading says, this is a list of items that people are proposing we fund from our Capitol Improvement fund for 2012.

Coded entry for Common House (Lyle / $400)

There are times when a guest in the Common House has not been comfortable unless the CH doors have been locked. We might want to start locking the CH to protect it from theft. If the main door is fitted with a coded entry, we could choose to leave the CH unlocked most of the time and Guests can lock it for comfort. Any member wanting to enter would just have to remember the code instead of having to locate a key. If we choose, we could also lock the CH and any of us could enter by code without needing a key.

Proposal would be to get two sets of coded entry and automatic door closing hardware. Door closing hardware would go on the front door and the patio door. Coded entry hardware would go on the front door and the laundry room door. Doors without coded entry would need to be manually unlocked during events/meals and then relocked. The coded entry hardware would need a simple override switch to turn off the automatic relocking during events/meals.

Low voltage lights for one walkway (Lyle / $500)

Run low voltage lights down one of our two paths for nighttime lighting, to be plugged in at the Common house and run on a timer for nighttime path lighting and a motion sensor to turn lights on only when motion is detected and turn them off otherwise. Type selected would be LED based lights (more expensive initially, but cheaper to run and longer lasting) directed downwards towards the path only.

Equipment and Plumbing for TID water use (Lyle / $1,500)

Pump, 150 Gallon holding tank, and pressure tank system to fill holding tank when TID is running and have a hose bib to attach and hose water. The idea would be to hopefully eventually connect this to the landscaping sprinklers only (not drip) to reduce city water usage, but in the interim be able to connect to hose bib and use a hose / lawn sprinkler to water lawn or landscape areas.

Greenhouse (Melanie / $1,500)

Not sure how big or where, but over some beds for winter growing. Also for starting plants early and holding summer veggies late. Not plastic which needs to be replaced every couple of years; probably polycarbonate panels.

Patio Furniture (Sarah/Ben/Leah / $300)

Bringing out chairs from inside when needed is good; nothing that needs additional storage. Metal seems best--most durable with kids.

Front Porch Furniture (Sarah / $200)

Wicker chairs for the front porch. Bench is nice, but others are rejects. Would kids trash them? Metal chairs are above garage right now. Kids might take the wicker apart. Things will do better on porch out of the rain and UV than actually outdoors.

Chicken Coop (KarenJ / $1,000)

Where to put it? What is needed? Understand that chickens will be killed and eaten in a soup or given to someone who will. Only place is by compost. Then need regular routines; kids are getting older and might be able to do the chores now.

Make Chamomile Lawn Area Useful (No Champion / $500)

Gathering area; maybe cobb oven, picnic table.

Improve Sandbox Cover (Claire / $300)

Create a cover that is more durable and works better.

Chipper/Shredder (Robert / $0)

Robert has one that we might be able to use sometimes, especially if we pay for repairs (and he can find it)

Shaded Garden Storage (Sarah/Doug/LindaG / $200)

Sun protected storage in the garden for things that want to be out of the sun and stored

Storage Consultation / Plan (Jack/Doug / $200)

Spend some money to get professional design advice from someone who can help us have effective organization and storage throughout the community
